Poor Gordon...

In college, I stayed at my cousin's house for a couple of summers while fulfilling a summer internship at an ad agency. We had great bonding moments especially while making up funny stories about her cat. They would always start out with, "Poor Ted" and end with her trying to guilt me into getting him a treat since, after all, I had hurt his feelings by refusing to take him to his skateboard lesson or denied him an oh-so-important role in my upcoming wedding as the train-of-the-dress surfer.

I smile about those days and think of "Poor Ted" every time Sam chases my own cat, Gordon, around the house yelling at him or every time I hear Grace, upon discovering a regurgitated hairball on the floor, say, "No, no, Gordon. No throw up!"

Yes, Gordon has it rough. At one point in his life, he was top...cat. All attention was focused on him. He was fed his wet food promptly at sunrise. He had a never-ending supply of dry food and water at all times. He had the run of the house and his favorite perch in the family room window where he would nap peacefully for hours and was never shoo-ed from even if I did have to clean the cat hair off the curtain several times a week.

Nowadays, he's considering therapy to deal with the addition of two kids, the betrayal of his "mama" who brought the little rugrats into the household, the absence of wet food, the occasional missed refill on the dry food dish, the new self-watering contraption that always startles him with an air bubble every time he tries to quench his thirst, the new house where he has to scream at a closed door to get to the beloved basement, the constantly interrupted naps where he must spring from a dead sleep to run from a kid. And let's not forget the above-mentioned yelling...

If only he'd been in the car with the rest of the family the other day. We were on a day-long trip back to Ohio. Daddy was driving and explaining to the kids that we would be driving back home the next day so that Gordon would not be lonely.

Grace quickly spoke up since most everything Daddy says lately merits a "No, no" out of her. She said, "No, no, Daddy. No say Gordon."

Kris replied sarcastically, "Okay Grace, we'll just get rid of Gordon."

To which a very distraught Sam said from the back, "No, Daddy! Don't get rid of Gordon. I just love him so much." Poor Gordon. It must be tough being so loved.

Chuck E. Cheese, here we come!

We made a deal, he delivered.

I never knew I could be this excited about gross pizza and a restaurant full of token-hungry kids in my life. And I had absolutely no idea that the sight of urine could bring me so much joy.

Congratulations, Brining Family!

A quick congratulations to Ashlie and Mark on the addition of their twin baby girls today! We're so excited to meet Audrey and Lilly in a month!

my very own blog...

So, here I go...finally started one of these of my own...thanks to Ash for a little prompting. Get ready everyone, my memory is filled with Rose stories that are dying to come out :) I thought this would be a good way to share recent design work and just the general happenings in our little family, as well. Thought for my first blog, I'd share a story pertaining to Grace that I recently posted to my myspace page...

Such an innocent little thing...until she cooks up more mischief

3.25.08:
I found my cell phone last night. It had been missing for six days. Around the second day, when I realized that I really didn’t know where it was, I decided to give it the old Catholic try and start praying to St. Anthony, the Patron Saint of Lost Things. My mom is beaming with pride right now... I’m pretty sure that’s what I see on the horizon from two states away. For all the non-Catholic readers, I’ll offer the explanation that I once heard a wise man deliver to a group of questioning "others" ... Catholics pray to saints because there’s no reason to bother the Big Guy if you’ve lost your keys. So, I am thanking St. Anthony today, for not only guiding me to the whereabouts of my lost item (which was in my mess of a purse all along... clearly I lack organizational skills) but also for forcing me to clean and organize my car and my kitchen in the process. Now, if I can only figure out which saint will guide me through apologizing to my toddler. She is currently praying to St. Anthony to help her find her lost playtime since her mother has been interrogating her for the last week over a missing cell phone.

Stay tuned...next post: Sam's funnies and a potty training update!

with a couple of his necessities...who could live without a spiderman toothbrush and yogurt?
