Fall is always a little hectic around here. We're getting back into the swing of the school scheduling while also juggling the extracurricular activities of choice...this year soccer and football. We're volunteering for field trips and Oktoberfest and classroom parties. Kris is working. I'm preparing, in my business, for the busy holiday season ahead. What we're apparently not doing...is blogging!
Here's the major update of our fall season: we're moving to Michigan! Kris took a new position with a company in Auburn Hills and we're waiting on the house to sell so we can all make the transition. It was a pretty tough decision, but when we consider our own childhoods, we don't really think of where we went to school or what our parents' job titles were. What we think of is birthday parties surrounded by family and family vacations and Sunday dinners with our grandparents. While we'll still be a couple hours away from the closest grandparents, we are anticipating our family being more a part of our normal routine rather our "vacation". And the prospect of giving this to our kids makes me so happy.
So, as we fumble through sports and school and activities, I'm trying to take advantage of all we have enjoyed about living in KY, since I know the time to leave is quickly approaching. It will be bittersweet as we have really loved it here, but we are also so excited to be back in the state where Vernors in a can is readily accessible! Okay...and, where we have the potential to see extended family members on a more frequent basis. :)

what a fun day it was...
Grace's birthday party was one of the best ones, yet. Kind of made me wish Sam had the option for a park birthday party, but February weather prevents that!
Grace wanted a party where they could play soccer, play t-ball, have their faces painted, do a craft and play on the playground...and she got just that! Since past birthday parties were getting a little large, I started the "you can invite the number of kids that equal the age you're turning" rule that my mom had with us when we were kids. It worked out great (that is, after Grace's nail-biting decision of who to invite that almost made me give in and let her invite more...almost). The small group played well together, no one got left out, and Kris and I had an easier time keeping track of everyone. That will definitely be the standing rule from this point on.
Oh, and the cake was a big hit! Grace had drawn a picture of what she wanted a couple of weeks ago and actually had me and Kris sign off on it...a binding contract!! She is a big fan of all the cake baking/decorating shows that are all over tv right now, so she insisted that we use fondant on her cake. Seriously, I don't know if fondant even existed when I was a kid, but if it did, I definitely had no idea what it was!
In true diva fashion, she kept the celebration going beyond the actual birthday, when we headed north to MI on vacation and she squeezed in a birthday celebration with Kris's side of the family. Posts on that will be coming soon!

What we've been up to {Part 11}
We've been watching out little man graduate from kindergarten! It was a fun, yet tearjerking show, as they presented us with a slide show of the year at the end, as they had for preK the day before. Of course they have to get us with the music selections! Let Them be Little, Angels Among Us, etc...there wasn't a dry mama eye in the house! So proud of all Sam has accomplished this year...and he is so proud to be heading to FIRST grade in the fall.
What we've been up to {Part 10}
We've been attending the wedding of Q & U! This is the end-of-the-year program for preK at CKS. It was seriously one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. :) It was bittersweet saying good-bye to Grace's wonderful teachers...what a great year she has had for her first year at CKS.
What we've been up to {Part 9}
We've been participating in fun end-of-the-school-year activities!
PreK Field Day
Even though it only lasted an hour, the PreK kids had so much fun during their Field Day activities. I was in charge of the obstacle course on the playground which was a challenge! The best part was the tug o war, though...Grace's class won and they were soooooo excited. :)
A Day at the Farm with the Kindergarten Classes
Grace got tag along for this one...she was thrilled! It was a really fun day for everyone and the best field trip Sam has had all year. We had a hay ride, played games, had lunch, learned how they saddle a horse/pony, fed chickens, pet horses, and the list goes on! Perfect way to wrap up a busy year of learning. :)

What we've been up to {Part 3}
We've been playing soccer! Again, one of us has...the other three have been watching.
Grace LOVES soccer and, when her practices ended up on the same night as dance class, meaning she'd be busy with extracurriculars for over 2 hours on Monday nights, she didn't care one bit (even if it exhausted Mommy!). She had a fun time playing on the league through school this year. Unfortunately, she has to miss her last game of the season next weekend. And, even more unfortunate, due to Mommy's forgetfulness, she missed her game this weekend. When I told her about it and apologized, she realized she could work this guilt-ridden mommy by asking for a piece of candy...I agreed by giving her loads of candy! When she came downstairs dressed in her soccer uniform later in the evening, I braced myself for a request for a pony!
My girl loves her soccer...looking forward to watching her play for years to come. Hopefully, I can be better at keeping track of her schedule next season, though!
What we've been up to {Part 2}
We have been playing t-ball! Well, one of us has...the other three have been watching! It's been a fun season, even if several games were rained out and scheduling got a little crazy. Sam has one more game left this season and we have see vast improvement for all the Riverbats this season. Sam even got the game ball twice...one for getting an out when he was playing second...he was paying attention enough to get an out!! His coach's goal for the season was for each kid to have fun (which should really be the goal for any sport in this age group, right?), and he achieved that and more.

St. Pat's!
A few days late...the kids were thrilled to head to school in green instead of uniforms! Grace's class visited one of the 2nd grade classes to help them clean up their room after a sneaky little leprechaun had messed up their room. And Sam's class had a leprechaun visit and leave them each a gold chocolate coin on their desks, making sure to leave Sam a pile of rainbow Skittles instead because leprechauns are pretty smart and know not to leave chocolate that was manufactured on shared equipment with peanuts and tree nuts for the kid who is allergic to such items. :)
