my first sale!!

I've decided that Facebook is a beautiful tool. The day I posted my status update there to announce that I had opened up an Etsy shop, an old high school friend contacted me to place an order for her daughter's room! And I couldn't have asked for an easier first customer. DeAnna e-mailed me pictures of Reece's new big girl room and bedding and basically said "go for it". After having her choose from three rough sketches, I got to work on the finished product. It shipped today and I hope Reece loves it! I'll be adding it to my shop tonight to make it available as a customizable piece. If you'd like to see my other available pieces, click here.

Queen Bee

Grace: "Mommy, on my May 31st birthday, I'm going to get five baby bumble bees."

Me: "What are you going to do with them?"

Grace: "I'm going to take care of them."

Me: "Are you going to keep them in the house?"

Grace: "No, Mommy. They need to be outside so they can get the nectar from the flowers to make the honey."

I had no idea she knew so much about bees, let alone when her birthday is!

meeting my goal

Anyone remember this? Yes, last May (2008), I set a goal for myself to open an Etsy shop in the fall. Okay, so I'm a year late...but in my defense, I did not indicate fall of what year in the original goal! Well, I finally did it!

It's still in the beginning stages and I plan to add a bunch of items to it, but I'm happy with the start. Please check it out and, if you like what you see, feel free to pass it along to everyone you know (or maybe even order something yourself...I'm just saying). Thanks!

where it hurts...

Sam isn't very discreet when he's up to something. I always know I'm about to walk around the corner to something that won't make me happy when he hears me coming and shouts, "Stop! Don't come in here, Mom!"

That was the scene last week when he was in the kitchen busily working on art with the treasured police-themed stickers he had picked out at Michael's that morning. Grace was upstairs napping and I had run downstairs to let the dog out and answer an email. When I came back up and walked through the dining room toward the kitchen, he yelled that familiar phrase.

I came around the corner to find him working on another piece of art...but with his sister's stickers that she had picked out. He quickly said he was sorry, but I told him that he needed to tell Grace when she woke up. I then informed him that he would be taking $3 out of his piggy bank and we would be going back to Michael's so he could buy Grace a new package of stickers. He looked horrified as he explained to me, "But, Mommy! I need that money for my motorcycle!"

I guess the Harley order will have to be put on hold. Good to know he has a goal, though. :)

8 years

Well, the plan was to pull some pics back from the days when we used film in our cameras, but, Kris, you know how the last week has been. So, to reminisce a little about our marriage as far back as the beginning of the digital photo age, a few pics:

Maybe next year, I'll dig out the older ones.

Happy Anniversary! I can't even believe it's been eight years already! Love you!
